Part of the allure of singer/songwriter MELo V is that he’s eager to journey wherever his imagination leads him. Sitting in his uncle’s production studio, eyes closed, head bouncing to the groove flowing through monitors, Vincent “MELo V” Thomas looks up for a moment, smiles and reveals, “Emotion drives my lyrics. Even when I can’t say anything I can always articulate every feeling from joy to pain, excitement and even lust through the songs I write. Music is just in me.”
“If I can’t feel it, I can’t create it,” he quips. Guided by this empathy and grounded in what he has experienced and witnesses growing up in Elizabeth, New Jersey, this songwriter’s wisdom shines through in his lyrics.
In 2013, the young crooner was recognized for his versatile song writing ability and invited Grammy Award winning songwriters to participate in multiple writing camps. He has performed on stages across in New York and New Jersey over the past 10 years, including recently opening a show for award winning R&B/Soul artist Raheem DeVaughn in Elizabeth, New Jersey.
It’s no surprise MELo V is finding his place within the music industry, music has been intricately woven in the fabric of MELo V’s DNA since birth. Born into a musical family as the middle child of ten brothers and sisters, MELo V was forced to find the voice to make him stand out amongst a crowd. By the tender age of 4 he was learning chord progressions in the church choir, and by the age of 12 he was professionally recording music.
MELo V honed his performing chops during his high school years at talent shows and competitions. Once he placed first in his hometown’s New Jersey Idol Contest, he never looked back. A true son of New Jersey, he lends his voice to support events to help uplift his community, performing at the Newark Symphony Hall to support Breast Cancer Awareness efforts and the Newark 24-hours of Peace Rally this past year.
When asked about his love affair with the music industry, he candidly admits, “It’s like a relationship. Full of ups and downs, but I love it and it’s what I do best. Plus, pursuing music is my choice. For me, there is no other alternative.” He reaffirmed this commitment by titling his 2014 debut release “Plan A”.
And with this latest release, MELo V lays out the blueprint of his career. He’s committed to creating timeless music for people to enjoy at all phases in life, much like the great performers who’ve influenced him; Stevie Wonder, Musiq Soulchild, and Marvin Gaye to name a few. In “Plan A” he delivers intimate, yet colorful lyrical content laced with mesmerizing harmonies and gripping hooks over beats that force you into a groove. From open to close he reps New Jersey to the fullest on this debut project. Beginning with thumping Jersey club anthem “Drip Drop” to the infectious tune “Past the Sky” featuring fellow Jersey native and “Snapbacks and Tattoos” artist Driicky Graham, MELo V is sure to give listeners a taste of his hometown.
Whether it is a seductive, bass dripping tune to spice up a night like album feature “Mr. Right Now”, or a smooth, melodic tune preaching his value to an ex-lover like “Sooner than Later”, MELo V is committed to giving his audience the best he has to offer, and he promises “I’m in it for the long haul.”
